Downtown Camas has a lot to offer families! Located just 15 minutes north of Portland, Downtown Camas provides you and your family a full day of fun activities.
Here are some ideas:
Start your morning off with a breakfast that your mom would be proud to serve. Located on the corner of 4th Ave and Dallas Street, you will find Natalia’s Café, a quaint little restaurant that brings back the art of home cooking. Here you will find fluffy pancakes, amazing breakfast scrambles and old world chocolate strawberry crepes.
After enjoying your breakfast, take a short walk to Camas Bike and Sport, located just a couple of blocks away on 5th Ave. Here you can rent bikes for half the day, or for the entire day. They are great about sharing tips on where to go. Take a ride through historic Downtown Camas to get the “lay of the land” and then head to nearby Lacamas Lake and Park, where you can experience the beauty of the Camas outdoors. These easy to ride trails will take you around the lake, where you will see wildlife and scenery that will make you feel like you have been transported to a lush forest. You can even rent kayaks and stand up paddle boards for some summer fun on the water.
Next, work your way back to Downtown and stop off at Crown Park for some fun in the sun. The kids will have a blast on the play structures, while you take a moment to relax in the shade. On those hot summer days, take a dip in the public swimming pool to cool off and build memories with your kids.
As lunchtime rolls around, Downtown Camas offers tastes from around the world. If an all American burger and microbrew is what you’re looking for, stop in at Mill City Brew Werks or Burgerville. Looking for some Mexican fare? You will find a family friendly atmosphere at Los Jalapenos or for something a little more upscale, drop by Nuestra Mesa for unique Mexican dishes. Downtown Camas is also the home of great Thai & Chinese food.
After a leisurely lunch, stroll down the streets and visit the one-of-a-kind shops that you won’t find at your local mall. From vintage antiques, to the latest fashions, kids’ clothes to shoes (check out 4Ever Growing Kids!), you will enjoy the variety you will find downtown. Cupcakes at Cake Happy, Italian sodas at Caffe Piccolo, ice cream at Little Bavaria, and fruit smoothies at Squeeze and Grind are all some wonderful afternoon snack options with your kids! Check out the movie times at the historic Liberty Theatre and see what your family might like to take in. Our downtown bronze dog “Millie” is just outside the theatre—take a picture with her!
As the day winds down and dinner time approaches, Downtown Camas has some fabulous restaurant choices for you and your family. Feast 316, located on Dallas Street, offers you steak, seafood and wine. Even the kids will find food that will excite their palate. Another option is authentic southern New Orleans inspired food from Miss Nola’s Café. Owner and Chef Tim McCusker is a Portland Iron Chef winner, so you won’t want to miss this taste explosion. Finally, there is The Sushi Joint, offering fresh, hand cut and rolled sushi. There is truly something for everyone.
As you pack up the kids and head home, you will be amazed at how much you packed into a single day. Then you can begin planning your next trip to Downtown Camas to experience even more!
