First Friday is coming September 1st and the theme is “Celebrate Art!” We are going to celebrate everything ART! This event is a combination of art installments, art shows, art activities, kids art and after-hours shopping, dining and family friendly artful activities.

Let’s “art it up” in Downtown Camas!

• Plein Air Camas Gallery has been featuring a “plein air” (French for open air) painting event in Downtown Camas for over a decade and this year the Pike Art Gallery is joining in on the organization of the event as well. The tradition of “plein air” painting gained popularity in France in the 1870’s and was vital to the impressionist art movement. Local artists will be painting at different locations throughout Downtown Camas during the day and the works of art will be displayed outside of Camas Gallery from 4pm-8pm. People are encouraged to peruse and vote for their favorite pieces and People’s Choice ribbons will be awarded to the top 3 community favorites. • Watch artist demonstrations from local fabric collage artist Sandy Moore, local weaver Kathy Marty, and local painters Tamra Sheline, Anna Norris, and Heidi Curley
• “Choose Your Favorite Art” passport activity at participating merchants throughout downtown with chances to win donated prize baskets.
• Open Studio Art Show at Elida Field Art Studio, 735 NE 6^th Ave, showcasing local artists’ work as well as art class and international art tour information.
• Art Show and Reception in Attic Gallery, 421 NE Cedar,  Second Story Gallery, 625 NE 4^th Ave, upstairs at the Camas Library, 411 Art Collective, 411 NE Dallas
• Youth Dance Performances by Virtuosity Dance at 6pm and 7pm in front of the Liberty Theatre, 315 NE 4^th Ave
• Take-home Rock Painting Activity from Grace Church and an Abstract Paint Activity with the Artisans’ Guild of Camas
• Kids’ craft activity at LiveWell Camas, 417 NE Birch.
• Live Outdoor Music hosted by Mesa, 228 NE 4^th
• Shop, dine, & have artful fun in Downtown Camas
