First Friday is coming September 4th and the theme is “Celebrate Art!” We are going to celebrate everything ART because we love art so! This event is a combination of art installments, art shows, art demos, kids art and after-hours shopping, ribbon cuttings, dining and other family friendly artful activities.

It’s an evening of Art for All in Downtown Camas!

  • Hands-on Art experiences including quilling, basket weaving, paper art and more for all ages inside the Fuel Lobby with DCA volunteers and throughout downtown
  • Watch artist demonstrations (see special note below!)
  • “Choose Your Favorite Local Art” passport activity at participating merchants throughout downtown with chances to win donated prize baskets.
  • Two Ribbon Cutting Celebrations!
    • At 5pm, the Ribbon Cutting for the new “Third Space” at LiveWell Camas will take place at 417 NE Birch St. Curated by the LiveWell Camas Youth Council, the space provides a welcoming place to gather and connect outside of home or school for all youth and was funded by a $7500 grant from It Gets Better: Changemakers, a program supporting LGBTQIA+ youth.
    • At 5:30pm, the Ribbon Cutting will occur for the new student art mural “The Pillars of Our Community” on the Birch side of the Camas Antiques building, celebrating the art of Charlie Irwin as his senior project. The mural depicts the mill’s iconic terra cotta colored tanks seen along 6th Ave as a tribute to the substantial and memorable influence the mill has had and continues to have in our community.
  • Self-guided mural tour of the beautiful public artworks in our downtown.
  • Art Shows and Receptions in Attic Gallery, 419 NE Cedar; Gallery 408, 408 NE 4th;, Second Story Gallery, 625 NE 4th Ave (upstairs at the Camas Library); and RedDoor Gallery, 411 NE Dallas.

  • Shop, dine, & have artful fun in Downtown Camas

Start your evening by picking up a First Friday Passport & Activity list at the DCA tables in Fuel Medical Group Lobby 314 NE Birch St.

A SPECIAL NOTE! This year we won’t have a specific plein air painting competition at First Friday because now there is an official Plein Air Event in downtown! On September 26th, the Camas Plein Air Event will be hosted downtown by RedDoor Gallery and it will bring many incredible artists to paint our town! Artists will paint from 8am-3pm and then an artist reception and award ceremony will be at RedDoor from 4-6pm. All are welcome! $2800 in artist cash prizes. It will be amazing to see what these artists create! The art will be on display and for sale in RedDoor Gallery through October 25.

For all the info and registration form, visit HERE! We’d love to have you participate!

Please also note that artists are definitely still welcome to come and paint plein air during First Friday as people LOVE to watch artists paint their favorite locations in downtown!
